...A SPECIAL MARINE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 PM EDT...

For the following areas...
Tidal Potomac from Key Bridge to Indian Head MD...

At 656 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 17 nm west of Key
Bridge, moving east at 35 knots. The gust to 58 knots at 653 PM was
reported at Dulles International Airport.

HAZARD...Wind gusts in excess of 48 knots.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Boaters could easily be thrown overboard by suddenly higher
wind and waves capsizing their vessel. Boats could suffer
significant damage in high winds.

Locations impacted include...
Fort Washington, Tidal Basin, Reagan National Airport, Gunston Hall,
Mason Neck State Park, Woodrow Wilson Bridge, Indian Head, Fort Hunt,
National Harbor, and Alexandria.

Information:
Move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are
expected.

Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the
open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded
metal objects.

Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and large
hail are possible through this evening across portions of eastern
West Virginia, northern and central Virginia, central and southern Maryland,
and the District of Columbia.

At 625 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable
of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were
located along a line extending from 36 nm west of Key Bridge to 37 nm
northwest of Leesylvania State Park, moving southeast at 25 knots.

Information:
Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher
waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor
immediately until these storms pass.
